We have a number of orchard fruits at the farm with most trees hand-grafted by John. One is planted to 500 apple trees which include a number of heirloom varieties known for their disease resistance and fine quality. We have 50 different varieties, including fine table apples such as Liberty, Wolf River, Winter Banana, Melrose, and Spartan. We also have a number of cider apples including Arkansas Black, Dabbinette, Thompkins King, and our favorite name, Westfield Seek-No-Further.
Another orchard is full of different pears. We have 300 pear trees with Asian pears such as Chojuro, Atago, and Mishirasu and European pears such as Gourmet, Rescue, Orcas, Taylor’s Gold, and Comice.
Our newest orchard is focused on stone fruit and includes plums such as Elephant Heart, Shiro, Methley, Satsuma, and Beauty. We are also experimenting with Frost Peaches and Puget Gold Apricots.
All of our orchards are certified organic and we expect our first commercial harvest in 2012. As our orchards mature and produce more fruit, we plan to market fresh cider.
